In this week’s podcast episode, wealth manager and author David Bahnsen joins me to challenge conventional wisdom about work, retirement, and purpose.
Managing $7.1 billion in assets hasn't stopped Bahnsen from questioning our culture's assumptions about work as something to escape from. His book Full-Time: Work in the Meaning of Life presents a radical rethinking of vocation as central to human flourishing.
Bahnsen argues that our focus on consumption over production and our eagerness to retire represent fundamental misunderstandings of what gives life meaning. Whether you're planning for retirement, questioning your work-life balance, or searching for greater purpose, this conversation offers a refreshing perspective on finding fulfillment through productive contribution.
I should note that this is the very first podcast I recorded using my new studio setup. Everything is new except my microphone. Other than a first class mic, pretty much everything else I had was the cheapest you could buy at the time. I wanted to upgrade to a more professional setup. I’ve got a lot of work to do, and there’s still a lot to get dialed in (audio quality may have taken a temporary step backward a bit), but I’m excited to be able to debut this. My video quality in particular is already vastly improved. This was very overdue.
Thanks to John Lang whose generous contribution made this possible. But for him, it would probably have taken me two years to be able to incrementally self-finance this upgrade.
My ability to continue investing back in the mission here with projects like this is directly related to financial support from people like you. So if you aren’t already, please become a paid subscriber today.
